Call for Abstracts

The Organising Committee for the 1st Australasian Exploration Geoscience Conference hosted by the Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia and Australian Institute of Geoscientists invites you to submit an abstract for presentation at the Conference, to be held at the International Convention Centre Sydney on 18 - 21 February 2018.

This Conference incorporates the 26th ASEG-PESA Geophysical Conference and Exhibition and the Eastern Australian Basin Symposium and will be home to the highest quality technical program with a focus on exploration.

Initial abstracts must be 250 words in length. Abstracts must be prepared using the AEGC 2018 abstract template.

The abstract is a short paper summarising your presentation (oral or poster). No acknowledgements, figures or references should be included. It will be published in the Conference digital proceedings and given to all Conference attendees. Abstracts will be reviewed for technical content and selection purposes.

The abstract summary will be published in Preview.

Themes

The AEGC Programme Committee invites abstracts in one of the three key themes;

  1. Energy
  2. Mineral Geoscience
  3. Near Surface and Groundwater

In each of these areas, key themes will focus expertise into main streams throughout the Conference.

You must select one of the three key themes and then one sub theme that best describes your abstract.

Final decisions on the type of presentation offered will rest with the Programming Committee and their decision is final.

Submitting an abstract

All abstracts must be submitted online by 5.00pm EST Friday 12 May 2017. Please plan your timetable for preparation and submission carefully.

Abstracts are to be submitted as Microsoft Word documents only, using the AEGC 2018 template below. Abstracts must not exceed 250 words.

We recommend that you use this template and save your abstract before uploading. Submissions that do not adhere to the requested format may be returned to the authors for re-submission.

To be selected to present you are required to submit an abstract via the website. All abstracts must be submitted electronically.

How will I know that I have successfully uploaded my abstract?

Submitting an abstract involves two steps. Completion of the submission form and the submission of the abstract. Advice that your submission and file upload have been successful, will appear on your edit abstract screen as "submitted". You will also receive a confirmation email.

Initial abstract submission deadline Friday 12 May 2017
Abstract notifications distributed Friday 9 June 2017
Extended abstract submission deadline Friday 1 September 2017
Final extended abstract submission deadline Monday 23 October 2017
Presenter registration deadline Tuesday 31 October 2017

Terms and conditions

It is a condition of acceptance of the abstract that at least the presenting author must register to attend the Conference and present the paper either orally or participate within the dedicated poster sessions. Abstracts submitted before payment of registration are eligible for an offer of acceptance but final acceptance (and publication as a Conference abstract) requires registration and payment by the deadline of 31 October 2017. All presenting authors must attend at least the full day of their presentation. Submission of abstracts implies the author’s agreement to publish the abstract in all Conference publications including the website.

Acceptance of abstracts does not imply any payment from the Conference Committee. Authors must arrange and pay their own accommodation, travel etc. to attend the Conference. Acceptance or otherwise is at the discretion of the Conference Program Committee whose decision is final.
